About Us

Van Tonder Transport is the biggest specialized bulk grain transporter in South Africa. We run a fleet of 50 MAN truck tractors with Trailord grain-links which have a capacity of +/- 37tons per combination which enables us to haul +/- 44000 metric tons a month over long distances and +/- 100 000 tons over shorter distances where we are able to do between 2 and 3 loads per truck per day.

Our workshop is MAN approved. All mechanics are well equipped and attend MAN courses on a regular basis to keep them up to date with the newest technology. Our philosophy is to rather have our rigs on the road than in the workshop so all maintenance is done with diligence, not only ensuring little down-time but also the safety of our drivers and other road users. We only use new Michelins tyres on Alcoa rims (Aluminium), no retreads, of which we sell all used casings to Bandag. We claim to have the best cent/km running cost on our tyres in the market and have no down time due to burst tyres or tyres loosing their tread. All our vehicles are under 24 hour satellite surveillance. Which enables us not only to keep customers up to date on the location of their load but also gives us a very accurate estimate on the arrival time of loads. We claim some of the fastest offloading times in the market. All our trailers are bottom dischargers which enables us to offload in less than 5 minutes without the use of labour. This enables us to move large quantities in a short period of time between locations where loading and offloading times are optimal.

We started operations in Kuruman back in 1989 with one truck and grew the company gradually through hard work, perseverance, diligence and the grace of God. We tragically lost our eldest brother Nelius, one of the founders, but remain a family owned and run company with both our parents, in Kuruman and the two brothers Flippie and Danie at our headquarters in Pretoria, right in the middle of the maize triangle. The company is operated under our family name and our name is our pride.
